The Sandelin group and collegues have studied the origin of a class of RNA molecules in human, collectively called small RNAs. These small RNAs occur at the same places as human genes in our DNA, and their function and origin has until now been a mystery.

Article on potentials of mean force

After about 20 year of controversy, "potentials of mean force" as used in protein structure prediction are now finally fully understood. The theoretical insights also point to some exciting new directions in protein structure prediction. The article was published in PLoS ONE (open access).

Paper in Bioinformatics

Thomas Hamelryck at the structure group is one of the co-authors of a recently published paper on the Biopython package, a set of freely available Python tools for computational molecular biology. Hamelryck has been part of Biopython development for many years, working on the classes that deal with macromolecular crystal structure.
